NYS Assembly Candidate Anthony Nicodemo Receives Support of the Westchester-Putnam Central Labor Body
Last night, in an overwhelming vote the delegates of the Westchester-Putnam Central Labor Body voted to recommend New York State Assembly candidate Anthony Nicodemo to the New York State AFL-CIO for endorsement. The vote affirms local labor leader’s support of Nicodemo.
“Union protections have been a cornerstone of my campaign since the beginning. Our country was built on the backs of organized labor and in a post Janus world, our brothers and sisters in labor must be protected at all costs.”
The support of the body adds to a growing list of progressive groups to back Nicodemo. He has been endorsed by the Working Families Party, Run for Something and the New York Progressive Action Network. He is also a Moms Demand Action gun sense candidate.
“Growing up in a union household and serving as a NYSUT local president has allowed me to understand the importance of our unions. My father has been an active member of Teamsters Local 456 for over 40 years. To receive this support alongside leaders like Yonkers Senators Shelley Mayer and Andrea Stewart-Cousins is truly humbling”
The Central Labor Councils, chartered directly by the national AFL-CIO, determine policy on local issues, as well as working closely with the State and National AFL-CIO to carry out Federation priorities. As the voice of working people in the local community, the AFL-CIO Central Labor Council is the heart of the labor movement. By uniting the local community, the Councils play a critical role on local, state and national issues. In political and community action, the Central Labor Councils are “where the action is.”
